Many of you might have wondered (while reading some of the previous posts) what is the story of Champions of Gods.
Why is this all happening? How did all of this happen? What is the reason behind these civilizations going at it? Is this just another game that sends you to war with no actual reason for it?
Get ready, we are about to take off.
The Beginning of Chaos
In Champions of Gods, there is a higher reason, for everything what both You do and what your armies and Heroes do.
Everything these civilizations do is in the name of their Gods.
Let us take you to the beginning of everything.
Gods have existed for many millennia.
They didn’t just exist, they ruled over the entire existence.
However, just like there were many groups and civilizations in the history of mankind, there were also many groups of Gods. These groups of Gods didn’t actually like each other that much because every Pantheon wanted the dominance over the entire world to be theirs.
Like it wasn’t enough that they had to share the world with the rest of their respective pantheons, they also had to share with other groups of Gods as well.
How do you think Zeus, who is the supreme ruler of Mount Olympus and father of the sky, felt when he knew that not all of sky was his? What did Poseidon feel when he knew that all the sea wasn’t his? How did Hades feel about being denied the souls of every being that have ever died?
These are almighty beings, and their desires are as great as their powers.
So you can say that they were pretty much upset with this state of things. A testament to this is also the vengeful nature which the Greek Gods have shown throughout the history. No one who they deemed guilty was ever spared (just ask Prometheus).
However, this feeling wasn’t present only among the Olympians.
How does God of Endings and Beginnings, the almighty Janus feels? He has the power to create and destroy anything. Yet he is limited because of the other petty Gods.
What does the almighty Ahura Mazda think about this situation? Sure he has a lot of problems with his archenemy Ahriman, but still, this situation isn’t to his liking. In fact, he has, even more reason to think this way, since he can’t be sure that one day some of the other Pantheons won’t assist Ahriman in his attempt to usurp Ahura Mazda’s position of the supreme god in the Persian’s Pantheon.
The Final Problem
Now you might wonder, if they didn’t like the state of things, why didn’t they try to do something about it?
The thing was, despite disliking the state of things, they also couldn’t go to war.
The reason why they couldn’t go to war is because the battle of that magnitude could shake the foundation of the Universe itself.
Since war amongst them wasn’t an option, they’ve tried (over the years) to establish their dominance in more subtle ways.
The most often way was helping the mortals that were their greatest worshipers by giving them mighty weapons and greater strength. They would pit them in wars against each other in order to spread their glory across the world and claim more world for themselves.
However, they couldn’t win this way because it wasn’t only one side that was giving help.
Also, no matter how much land they had, it didn’t change the balance of power among them.
Finally, after many arguments amongst these groups of Gods, a great meeting between the Supreme Gods was held. There they decided that it was finally time to settle this issue.
They agreed that there can be only one group of Gods which can rule the World.
The Final Solution
The decision was to have a contest through which they will determine which group was the strongest. However, it couldn’t be any simple contest.
After all, they are gods and the contest of that magnitude had to be befitting both the moment and their awesome powers.
After many ideas were discarded, they have finally come to a united decision on what kind of contest will it be. I guess they could only agree on the way they wanted to get rid of each other…
What they finally agreed on was this: If they could not fight each other, the most appropriate way to solve this problem was to (once again) have their most loyal worshipers do it for them.
However, this war was gonna be unlike any other.
It was agreed that none of the Gods can’t be directly involved in a battle, but they can offer support in some more subtle ways.
What they also agreed on was that the battlefield on which this epic encounter was going to be held cannot be the one for which they are competing. The reason for this is the destruction that this war would cause to the land.
Sure there were great wars between the ancient civilizations on Earth, but this war (which they will fight with the help of their Gods) will be like nothing that they have seen before and even beyond their wildest imaginations.
What that would also bring along is the almost endless destruction of the very prize they are fighting for.
So the decision was to create a new world which will serve as a Battle World and will, in the end, be the home for the losers of this war (if it doesn’t get destroyed completely in the process).
The Battle World
This World will be divided into many huge islands, on which a huge number of cities will be created.
Each of these cities will be owned by one of the Leaders (players), chosen by the Gods to spread their glory across this new world and bring them their ultimate reward.
The player will be a leader of his empire. Everyone starts small with one city, and then through playing the game grows to a full-fledged emperor.
He can recruit units, mythical creatures, and Heroes in order to defeat their enemies and give the full glory. The one that brings the ultimate victory to their gods will forever be remembered as the new Champion of Gods.
Each of these groups of Gods is extremely confident that they are the ones that will prevail.
I mean why should they not be?
With awesome heroes and kings such as Achilles, Hercules, Leonidas, Atalanta, Spartacus, Flamma, Aeneas, Caesar, Rostam, Esfandiyar, Darius and Xerxes, mythical creatures like Chimera, Basilisk and Manticore, warriors like Spartan Hoplites, Roman Legionaries and Persian Immortals, I wouldn’t be feeling bad about my chances either.
With the promise of eternal glory, you can be sure that all will be fighting with all their strength until they draw their final breath.
The one pantheon of Gods whose civilization has it all will rule the world.
Such a simple sentence, and yet the one that will cause absolute chaos and war beyond our imagination.
In the end, only one group shall be victorious.
In the end, there will be only one to rule it all.
Multiple End-Game Scenarios
Now, this is one of the best things about Champions of Gods.
Storylines will be guided and some things will happen, bringing change to the world as you know it.
With multiple end-game scenarios (which aren’t just different groups of Gods winning the war) there is always something to look forward to, no matter how many times you play this game.
Even though it is the war of Pantheons, no one can guarantee that all of the Gods will play by the rules.
In the end, the story of the world will be decided by the players.
Through both your decisions and actions the world will evolve and the story will develop in a certain direction.
I don’t want to spoil the game, but what I can promise you is that it will be a great adventure and an awesome experience.
The question, in the end, is this. What would you do with these awesome powers? What would you do if you were chosen by the Gods? Whose side would you be on? How would your story look like?
